The fortress wall and the Camel Gate in Hisarya

Price: $0.00
In Stock

To be protected from enemy attacks, Hisarya was surrounded by a wall built by the skilful hands of the Thracian masters. It is one of the best preserved fortresses not only in Bulgaria but on the entire Balkan Peninsula. The Fortress has the shape of an almost regular quadrangle. Today, the preserved remains of the castle reach up to seven meters.

The southern, "Camel" gate is best preserved. It is the symbol of the city. It is so named because of the broken door, which looked like two camels facing each other. Mitkulishev Photography Ivan Mandevski © Photo: Svetoslav Todev
