The Zhaba Mogila, with its diameter of 90m and 20 meters in height, is the largest among the 300 mounds that can be found near the town of Strelcha and one of the largest on the territory of Bulgaria.

It was a mausoleum, the place of residence of a Thracian nobleman, open to visit and worship. It consisted of two chambers, one rectangular and one round, and a narrow entrance. The two chambers and the facade are made of large, skilfully carved stone blocks. The facade of the tomb is well thought through and meticulously executed.

In the 5th century BC, it used to be a part of the centre of the Thracian tribe - Bessi. Mitkulishev Photography Ivan Mandevski © Photo: Svetoslav Todev
