Price: $0.00

It is the biggest monastery in Veliko Tarnovo Region. It is believed it was founded during the Second Bulgarian Empire, around 1360, by Tsaritsa Sarah-Teodora and her son Ivan Shishman. During the Middle Ages the monastery was situated approximately 400 - 500 m south of where it stands now but the initial location was abandoned after the monastery was destroyed during the Ottoman conquest of Tarnovo. The monastery was burnt down and rebuilt several times in history. At some point, it was even converted into a hospital, but nowadays, it is a functioning monastery and it is open for visitors.
