This amazingly beautiful group of stone pyramids, with its unique shape, brings a wedding procession to mind. The figures are surprisingly diverse in terms of shape and size, ranging from 0.5 to over 10 m in height. The rocks are formed of volcanic tuff with rhyolite component, and date about 35 million years back. The today’s Eastern Rhodope Mountains used to be a bottom of the sea in the Oligocene Epoch. As a result of frequent volcanic explosions on the seabed, thick layers of volcanic ash mixed with various ruptured pieces were formed along the rocks. The sludge has slowly turned into layers of tuff, which has become the Stone Wedding. Various minerals of which these rocks consist give it a diverse palette of colours - white, yellow, pink, green and rubiginous. Among them, layers of even more types of rocks can be spotted, e.g. limestone, conglomerate and others. Different mineral components of the rocks determine their varying solidity, which is the essential factor for the magnificent shaping of the rock pyramids.
